COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The case involving a Colorado Springs man accused of strangling an 87-year-old woman and setting her body on fire has been delayed again.
The Gazette reports the judge granted a defense request Friday for another competency review for Marcus Allen Smith, who is charged in the death of Katherine "Kit" Grazioli. Two years after Smith's arrest, no trial date has been set - the legacy of continuing questions over his mental health in the wake of repeated courtroom outbursts that include spitting, swearing at the judge and kicking a prosecutor's chair.
Smith was arrested after Grazioli was strangled by an intruder in her gated community near Fort Carson in November 2011. Her body was then set ablaze on a dirt road.
