COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Monster potholes are popping up in various parts of Colorado Springs. I had a chance, Monday morning to watch repairs being made at North Wahsatch and Pikes Peak, near downtown.
Amaro Montemayor is the Operations Manager for Public Works and Streets. He tells me that the turnaround time from when you call in about a pothole to when it gets fixed is running about 3 1/2 days. That's pretty impressive considering in 2008 days it was a 20 day turnaround time. Montemayor tells me that some of the reason is that we haven't had a severe winter but it's also because his crews don't just piecemeal repair a street filled with potholes, "Once they see one, they try to get as many potholes filled as they can in that area." There are eight patch trucks that each have two person crews. If more potholes pop up, other city street workers will also pitch in to fill in the potholes.
Starting next Monday, crews will be doing Pothole Palooza. It's an intense focus for the next six to eight weeks on pothole fixes. That number is 719-385-6806. I've also put more information on city pothole repairs on links we mentioned.
