COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs residents participated in a number of Veterans Day events, among them a wreath laying ceremony at Memorial Park.
There scores of people watched a ceremony that began at 11 o'clock, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and included the laying of wreaths honoring heroes.
Both young and old in attendance say they wanted to pay respect to the men and women who have made such a sacrifice for our freedom. "Because the veterans that passed away in the fight, they thought that it would be good to celebrate the veterans," says five-year-old Noah Verhey who came with his sister and grandmother.
"We have to remember what happened in order to get ahead so we don't make the same mistakes and all and a lot of people have fought and died for this country so that we can live the lifestyle we do whether we agree with it or not it gives us that chance to live the way we want to," says retired US Navy Terry Crites.
Memorial Park was also the location of the Veterans Day run that began at 4 Monday afternoon. All the proceeds from that go to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
