D-11 employee accused of child sex assault

D-11 employee accused of sex assault

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - A School District 11 employee has been arrested after investigators said he molested two young girls six years ago.

A D-11 spokesperson said Murray Basinger, 53, has been placed on leave from his job in the district's central administration office.  She said because Basinger did not work around students, the district is not required to notify parents of his arrest.

The El Paso Co. Sheriff's Office said the crimes happened at Basinger's home on Harrisburg Way in Cimarron Hills.

Investigators said Basinger's wife babysat the two alleged victims, who were between the ages of seven and nine at the time.

"These sex assaults would occur when the girls were at that home, often times when the lady who was actually doing the babysitting was either, maybe taking a nap or gone from the house running errands," said EPCSO Lt. Jeff Kramer.

Kramer said one of the girls told her mother of the alleged crimes in April and the investigation began.

Basinger was arrested Saturday, charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.  He posted $25,000 bond and left jail the next day.

A young man at Basinger's home told KRDO Newschannel 13 he had no comment and to leave the property.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said that he couldn't believe the accusations against Basinger because he's known him for years and always thought he was a great guy.

Neighbor Cheryl Vossekuil said the allegations were especially concerning to her because of how many kids live in the neighborhood.

"It's really nice in this neighborhood to have the sounds of children who are happily playing," said Vossekuil. "To think anyone could be victimized right here where I've felt so safe is very troubling"

The Sheriff's Office said it's not ruling out that there could be other potential victims. Anyone with additional information about this case or other victims should call Detective Greg White at 719-520-72246.
