District 49 sees another loss, Falcon student dies suddenly

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - A 10th grader from Falcon High School died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, making it the fifth loss for District 49 in 2017.

Alex Bourbon was a member of the Falcon High School JROTC and had been a student at District 49 since 5th grade.

The District has seen four other losses recently. Those include Dr. Julia Roark who was riding her bike when she was hit by a car, Rachel Dewey who died while skiing Pikes Peak, Richard Hammond who was shot and killed in Denver, and Michael Finley whose life was taken in a car accident where the driver was possibly intoxicated.

The District made the following statement on Thursday morning:

"This is a very difficult time for our students, staff and entire Falcon High School and District 49 community. Our school has had many losses over the last two weeks. More than a few of our students and staff are still reeling from these tragedies."

Counselors and support staff from across District 49 have set up a spot at District 49 for anyone who is grieving and needing someone to talk to. Several dogs and handlers from Hope Animal Assisted Crisis are also there to provide support .
