PUEBLO, Colo. - An emergency room doctor and registered nurse at Memorial Hospital say they treated a kidnapped girl who showed signs of sexual assault.
Police say Jose Garcia, 31, kidnapped and sexually assaulted a girl as she was walking home from school back in January 2012. Almost 24 hours after she was abducted, the girl was found in a gas station in Colorado Springs. She was then taken to Memorial Hospital.
On Friday, Dr. Matthew Murray and Danielle Oringer, RN, testified in court. When the girl arrived at the hospital, she had two black eyes. Murray said the girl told him she had been punched in the face twice, once in each eye.
After she was seen by Murray, Oringer examined her. Oringer specializes in sexual assault cases. Oringer said the girl had injuries in her genital area. She said those injuries are consistent with injuries from a sexual assault.
The trial is expected to last several weeks.
