Driver injured after semi strikes Denver bridge

One woman has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries after a semitrailer hit a bridge over Interstate 25 near downtown Denver.

The truck, traveling southbound on I-25, crashed into the bridge at Speer Boulevard on Monday, knocking loose some concrete and rebar.

A large piece of debris from the bridge struck a car, pinning the driver inside. Police say that driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Two other cars were involved in the accident, but no other injuries have been reported.

The highway has reopened since inspectors deemed the bridge safe for travel.
