Driver killed in head-on crash

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of a coupe died after crashing head-on into a recycling truck on Las Vegas Street.

The crash happened at 9:31 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 just north of the Martin Luther King overpass.

Troopers say that the driver of a black coupe was going north on Las Vegas when the car drifted into the southbound lane and slammed head-on into the recycling truck.

Both vehicles came to a rest on the south side of Las Vegas, with the coupe pinned between the truck and a guardrail.

The driver of the coupe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the recycling truck suffered minor injuries.

No names have been released.

Speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

State Patrol is asking anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn't already spoken with an investigator to give them a call at 719-544-2424.
