Family honors son's memory by giving back to what he loved

MONUMENT, Colo. - The family of a man killed in a motorcycle accident last month is honoring his memory by helping to clean up Mount Herman.

Devin Seifert, 21, died in a motorcycle accident on July 5.

"He was just a great young man," mom Debbie Seifert said. "He was shy, and funny and just a great kid to be around."

"Devin was greatly loved, and we miss him more than words can say," dad Steve Seifert said. "He very much enjoyed the outdoors, he was a great brother, a terrific son, just an awesome, awesome young man. He's going to be deeply missed forever and ever."

The Seiferts are paying tribute to Devin's love for the outdoors. They organized what they hope is the inaugural Clean Up for Devin event. With the help of Friends of Monument Preserve and volunteers, the couple and their other two sons, ages 12 and 17, will help clean up Mount Herman Road. There is a lot of debris in areas where recreational shooting was recently banned.

"Devin loved the mountains," Steve Seifert said. "He loved being in the mountains, whether it was snowboarding, hiking, camping. And he liked to see the mountains clean."

The Seiferts said cleaning Mount Herman in Devin's honor will help them cope. They hope it'll do the same for others who also knew and loved him. The goal is to have at least 100 people attend the cleanup event.

Volunteers will meet at Dirty Woman Creek Park on Mitchell Avenue in Monument, on Sunday August 10, at 9 a.m. From there, shuttles will take them to the cleanup sites. The cleanup lasts from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. There will then be a BBQ at the park. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately in sturdy shoes, hats, etc.
