Fort Carson gate reopened, object not dangerous

Was step stool covered with camouflage material

FORT CARSON, Colo. - Gate 1 on Fort Carson has reopened on Thursday morning after a suspicious package prompted its closure.

Maintenance crews found the object near the gate around 9:30 a.m.  They notified authorities who closed the gate and sent in a bomb robot to inspect the object. 

The object turned out to be a step stool covered with camouflage material and was deemed not dangerous.  It is unclear who left the stool and why.

The gate reopened around 11:30 a.m.
