Fountain girl uses Girl Scout cookie money to help military

FOUNTAIN, Colo. - An 8-year-old Fountain Girl Scout is using her cookie-selling prowess for good.

Anna Stanwood is considered a Juliette, meaning she is the only girl in her troop.  This year she decided to do something special with the proceeds of her cookie sales by donating it to the Wounded Warrior Project.

"Sometimes they don't have hands, legs or arms, so I want to help them by giving back," Anna said.

Anna got the idea when she saw a commercial for the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that helps wounded service members.

"When she saw that, she thought that would be a really neat thing to do," said Anna's mom, Jessica Stanwood.  "So she asked and we discussed it and she came up with it on her own."

Anna said she didn't mind standing out in the cold to sell cookies because she thought of the wounded warriors.

She knows about the military through her dad, who served in the United States Army and now works for the Fountain Fire Department. She knows about disability through her brother.

"Her brother has cerebral palsy and he's been a major focus, had two major surgeries," Jessica said.  "So she understands that aspect of it and some kids having to learn how to eat without digits and arms."

At the end of her selling journey, Anna sold 540 cookies and raised $240.  She delivered the check to the Wounded Warrior Project this week.

"I feel so excited and proud," Anna said.

Anna is already looking to next year's sales and hopes to raise even more money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
