Fremont County woman accused of animal cruelty and neglect

Two horses now under care of Colorado Humane Society

Horse Abuse Suspected in Fremont County

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. - The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has issued a court summons to a woman on two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.

Angelyn Daniels, 20, received the summons after two horses were found and inspected by a veterinarian Tuesday in the 1500 block of M Street in Penrose.

The Sheriff's Office received a report expressing concern about the horses and found them dehydrated, malnourished and hurt from unsafe living conditions.

"I think the cost of hay and the fact that they probably couldn't afford to feed them, came into play," said Capt. Don Pinover.  "In a lot of the cases we go out on, it's a matter of education.  The animal owner doesn't know how to properly take care of it, or know how much feed and water it requires."

Pinover said the Sheriff's Office receives several reports of suspected horse abuse every week.

"Sometimes, the owners won't be cited if they agree to give up their horses to the Humane Society," he said.  "In this case, we felt the condition of the horses made a summons appropriate."
