Fugitive facing vehicular homicide charge in child's death

DENVER - The Colorado State Patrol is searching for a man who it says is responsible for a crash that killed a 7-year-old boy.

The crash happened on August 23, 2013.

Troopers say Manuel Nunez, 41, of Longmont, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer on a highway between Boulder and Longmont when he ran a red light, swerved to avoid cross traffic, and rolled the vehicle.

Investigators say several children riding in the vehicle with Nunez were not wearing their seat belts. One of the children, a 7-year-old boy, was partially thrown from the SUV. He later died at Boulder Community Hospital.

The Colorado State Patrol says Nunez may have been driving under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of child abuse resulting in death and vehicular homicide.

Nunez is believed to either be hiding out in Colorado or California. Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Rob Madden at 303-239-4501.
