There are three new gas stations in Colorado Springs, and as a promotion to celebrate, the stations are rewarding drivers with free gas.
On Thursday, the first 50 drivers who arrived at the Kum & Go located at 7385 Duryea Road received 12 gallons of gas for free.
"We want to celebrate our entrance into the market and introduce ourselves to our customers," said Kellie Wisbrack, Kum & Go district supervisor.
Wisbrack said drivers started forming a line at 6 a.m., even though they were not able to actually get the free gas until noon.
Those waiting in line said the tough economic times and the high price of gas makes the hours of waiting well worth it.
"It's wonderful. It is wonderful. It's been a long time since someone has done something like this, but I'm quite sure from the looks of it, it's going to help a lot of people," said Betty Weems.
There are more opportunities for free gas, for those who missed out on Thursday's giveaway.
On Friday, free gas will be given to the first 50 drivers who arrive at the Kum & Go at 1206 Interquest Parkway, with fill-ups beginning at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the first 50 drivers who arrive at the Kum & Go at 2190 Vickers Drive will get 12 gallons of free gas. The fill-ups will begin at noon.
For drivers who do not wish to wait in the line, there are promotions within the convenience stores.
The three stores will offer 20-cent discounts on gas with the purchase of a pack of water. Discounts will also be given on food and beverages, including hot and cold fountain drinks for 25 cents, plus $1 pizza slices, breakfast sandwiches, cheeseburgers and hot dogs. These promotions will last through Saturday, Oct. 27.
Kum & Go has also committed to a minimum contribution of $100,000 to help buy toys for underprivileged children through Toys for Tots this holiday season.
As part of Kum & Go's new "Drink good. Do good." campaign, 5 cents from the purchase of any hot drink will be donated to Toys for Tots from Oct. 25 through Dec. 7.
According to Kum & Go, the company plans to invest $90 million building 20-25 new stores in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak region within the next five years.
