Hate Sticker Stirs Controversy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A hate sticker sold at some Colorado convenience stores is stirring up controversy.

It reads "Illegal Immigrant USA Hunting Permit.  No bag limit, tagging not required."

The sticker is sold by Central States Novelty, LLC in Hayes, Kansas.  No one at the company was available for comment on the slogan.  However, they did put KRDO News Channel 13 in touch with the Colorado distributor.

The Colorado Distributor said he sold the stickers to 10 stores in Colorado specifically to stores in Limon, Frederick and Boulder.

He said the sticker is among about 150 stickers they sell, and that the political ones are the most popular sellers.

KRDO News Channel 13 had a hard time finding anyone who would buy the sticker.

"I used to have a similar one for terrorists on my truck," said Chet Atkins, Colorado Springs resident.  But Chet said he wouldn't buy this one.  He explained, "I bought the other sticker right after Sept. 11."

"It's ridiculous, it's ridiculous.  It's hate. Might as well be racist," said Sean Mannon, Colorado Springs resident.
