COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command or CID is hoping 25 thousand dollars will help jog your memory about a murder investigation. 31 year old Sgt. Anton Philips was stabbed to death in 2009 at Forward Operating Base, Mehtar Lam in Afghanistan. Chris Grey with CID tells me, "We're hoping someone in your area has information to solve the death of this soldier. We have a strong indication and belief that someone in the Colorado Springs area has information on this case."
Sgt Phillips was not a Fort Carson soldier. Prior to his death he'd been deployed from Germany to Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Fifth Maintenance Company, Second Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment. CID's Chris Grey told me that Sgt Phillips was stabbed between his living quarters and another area on the forward operating base about eight p.m., on New Year's Eve. Investigators believe Anton Phillips was not the victim of a robbery. I asked Grey if other Fort Carson soldiers were in this same installation at the same time when this stabbing happened. He told me, "I can't reveal that."
CID's Chris Grey would confirm to me that soldiers who may have been in Afghanistan in 2009 could be at Fort Carson now and know something about this crime. Grey also says, "The agents in Afghanistan are working this investigation and are determined to get to the bottom of it. They haven't given up on it. It's obviously a tragedy. A young Sergeant, only 31 years old was killed."
