Hit and run driver arrested in Monument

MONUMENT, Colo. - Police arrested a man early Tuesday morning after officers say he crashed his pickup truck then fled the scene.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a traffic accident on Garden of the Gods Road near I-25.  The suspected driver involved in the crash had fled the scene.

When officers arrived, a lifted, red pickup truck with Wyoming plates was seen getting back onto the interstate northbound at Garden of the Gods Rd.  This matched the description of the suspect vehicle and officers followed it onto I-25.

Officers tried to pull the man over at I-25 and Baptist Road.  The driver initially stopped his truck but took off again, police said.  Police stopped pursuing him because of road conditions.

State Patrol stepped in at this point and tried to stop the truck in Monument.  The truck continued north until it finally exited on County Line Road.  The truck eventually crashed off of County Line Rd and the driver was arrested.

The driver, who has not been identified, was charged with multiple traffic charges including eluding.
