Inmate attacks fellow inmate, faces new felony charges

PUEBLO, Colo. - A 23-year-old inmate is facing new felony charges are he assaulted another inmate at the Pueblo County Detention Center.

Authorities say John Eric Lovato attacked fellow inmate, Richard Lee Jaramillo Thursday night in the maximum security area of the detention center.

Jaramillo is hospitalized, recovering from facial injuries. He is in stable condition.

Authorities say the assault stemmed from a possible theft of telephone calling-cards.

Lovato is charged with 2nd Degree Assault for the attack.

Lovato has been in custody since Oct. 21, 2012 for two counts of 3rd Degree Assault, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and a Parole Hold.

Jaramillo has been in custody since May 5, 2013 for Possession of a Weapon by an Offender, Possession of a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and a contempt of court warrant.
