Investigation underway after suspicious buckets found in courtroom

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An investigation is underway after two 5-gallon buckets were left behind in one of the El Paso County Courthouse's active courtrooms Monday night (4/21/14).

Colorado Springs Police were called to the courthouse around 6 p.m. to investigate the suspicious items. A bomb squad, including a bomb-sniffing K9, examined the two buckets and determined that the contents inside the buckets were harmless.

Police say the buckets went through security before they were found in a courtroom.

Police say a man was seen carrying two 5-gallon buckets into the building earlier in the day, but they don't know who the man is. Investigators are now going through surveillance video to try to identify the man.

Police say they expect there to be heightened security at the courthouse following the incident.
