COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - 14 year old Jeremy Rice was honored Friday for his quick thinking in a crisis. In August, the teen took the wheel of the school bus he was on and safely brought it to a stop in a busy intersection in Colorado Springs. Jeremy rushed up eight rows on the Colorado Springs Early Colleges bus to help the driver.
The bus driver didn't have his seat belt buckled all the way, made a turn and ended up in the stair well of the bus.
Jeremy was honored by Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach and State Senator Keith King. Mayor Bach told Jeremy's school mates at Colorado Springs Early Colleges, "What you did there, you acted so quickly and took control. I don't know if I could have done that."
Jeremy Rice told me that he's the kind of teen who believes in being a go getter at home and at school, "I feel we could also use more people to step up. I feel it's how my Mom and Dad raised me."
I asked his Mom, Diana about her son's future. She told me, "He's got endless potential. He talked about being a Navy Seal before. He goes to Early Colleges and his whole horizon has been broadened. I can't wait to see what he is going to do."
