Man accused of robbing two Springs banks, trying to knock off a third

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Police department says it believes officers arrested a bank robbery suspect as he was preparing to commit another holdup.

Kurtis Alva, 28, was arrested in the 600 block of W. Garden of the Gods Road at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014.

Police say a robbery detective spotted Alva near the intersection of Garden of the Gods and Chestnut, and that Alva matched the description of a man who robbed two banks and tried to rob a third. All three crimes happened in a one-week period.

Officers closed in on Alva and detained him. They say he had items on him that led them to believe that he was preparing to commit another robbery.

Police say Alva is facing charges for the following crimes:

08/07/14 - Robbery - Wells Fargo Bank, 5710 Constitution Blvd.
08/13/14 - Robbery - Chase Bank, 4190 Austin Bluffs Pkwy.
08/14/14 - Attempted Robbery - TCF Bank, 2870 New Center Pt.

Alva has lived in Colorado Springs for several months according to investigators. Police say he lived in Michigan and Florida before moving here.
