Man arrested after firing shots at police officer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A 32-year-old Colorado Springs man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly tried to kill a police officer.

The incident began as a reported burglary.  Someone saw two men looking through back windows of a home in the 800 block of North Nevada Avenue and called police, suspecting they were burglars.

When officers arrived, they contacted the suspects at a traffic stop.  One man, 34-year-old Ryan Medlock, was detained immediately but the other ran away.  The other man, William Dandrea, fired shots at officers while he ran near St. Vrain and N. Weber Street, police said.

Police eventually caught Dandrea and charged him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.  Dandrea also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.  Medlock was arrested for an unrelated warrant.

Further investigation revealed that the two men had permission to be at the home and no burglary charges were filed.
