COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police have arrested a man who is a suspect in a number of crimes around Colorado Springs.
Gabriel Martin, 29, of Colorado Springs was arrested Saturday.
Police say a man drove at officers and rammed an SUV into an unmarked police car Friday evening.
Friday night, a man in an SUV, matching the same description as the one that rammed into a police car, was involved in an incident near 21st St. and Armstrong Ave. A resident in the area asked the man to turn the music down in the SUV. The man then shot at the resident before fleeing the area.
No one was injured in that incident.
Saturday evening, someone called police with information that the suspect and the SUV were in the area of N. 12th St. and W. Kiowa St. Responding officers found the man in the SUV and tried to make contact with him. The man then fled from police, starting a car chase.
Police say the man was driving very aggressively. He drove directly towards a marked patrol car and in the wrong direction. Police then started a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (PIT Maneuver) in the 200 block of N. 22nd St., successfully disabling the suspect's car, causing it to crash into a residential yard.
The suspect, Martin, was taken into custody and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was then booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Martin faces multiple charges stemming from the various incidents. The charges include Attempted Murder, Attempted Felony Assault on a Peace Officer, and Felony Menacing. Police also found out that Martin was wanted on an unrelated Felony Assault Arrest Warrant from a previous Domestic Violence Incident.
