Man attacked by dogs, shot in arm walking home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police are investigating after a man suffered a mysterious gunshot wound Sunday night (2/2/14).

Police received a call about a possible shooting victim at the Denny's on W. Bijou St. around 10:30 p.m.

The man told police he suffered injuries to his left arm after he was randomly attacked by two pit bulls while walking home from his friend's house. After fighting the dogs off, the man told police he went to the 7-Eleven on Bijou St. and stood outside by the street. That's when he was apparently shot in the same arm.

The man thought the injury to his arm was caused by his lighter blowing up. Doctors at Memorial Hospital confirmed that it was a gunshot wound.

Police say the unrelated events seem unlikely to happen so close together, but that witness statements, evidence and time-stamped photos support the man's story.
