Man killed in rollover crash near Trinidad identified

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. - One person was killed and another was injured after a single vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 25 on Tuesday.

The crash happened around 2:00 p.m. about ten miles north of Trinidad at exit 23.

One commercial vehicle, a UPS truck, was involved in the crash.  Colorado State Patrol says that the driver of the truck, 52-year-old James Smith from Mesquite, TX, was headed northbound on I-25 when he went off the side of the road into the median.  The truck then went across the southbound lanes of I-25 and into a ditch.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, 43-year-old Jeffrey Poland from Heath, TX, was transported to Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad. 

Alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in this crash.  The crash remains under investigation and no cause was provided by State Patrol.
