Man wanted for assaulting officer identified

LAMAR, Colo. - The Lamar Police Department is looking for a man who it says assaulted a police officer during a traffic stop Wednesday night (1/9/14). The office fired his gun during the incident, but no one was hit. The driver got away.

It happened at 8:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of S. Main Street.

Our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain report that the driver has been identified as Justin Orozco, 23.

Orozco is described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot 7-inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Police said Orozco should be considered dangerous and asks anyone who sees him call police or 9-1-1 right away.

Frank Torez is a manager at the Tank and Tummy convenience store.

He said when he arrived for work he was shocked to see law enforcement investigating a crime.

"You don't think stuff like that is going to happen here," Torez said.

People who live around the convenience store were concerned.

"Everybody has been calling."

The officer was taken to the Prowers Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries he received during the alleged assault.

The Pueblo Chieftain will have more information about this story in it's Saturday, January 11, 2014 edition.
