Meth Lab Found In Motel Room Where Michigan Fugitives Arrested

Suspects Captured, Motel Shut Down

Cañon City, CO - A Cañon City motel is shut down by police after a meth lab is found inside a room where two fugitives from Michigan were staying.

The investigation was underway early Friday at the Royal Gorge Budget Host Inn at 217 N. Reynolds Avenue, off of Highway 50.

The Cañon City Police Department requested help from Colorado Springs Police narcotics officers to dismantle the meth lab. The motel was evacuated as soon as the lab was discovered.

The fugitives, Gregory Allen Bradshaw, 23, and Kenneth Lee Grauman II, 32, were arrested Thursday after escaping Sept. 29 from the minimum security Lake County Residential Reentry Program in Baldwin.

"Armed federal fugitives operating a meth lab is a very dangerous situation," said CañonCity Police Chief Paul Schultz. "This was a culmination of some excellent police work from several agencies. At one time we had 20 police officers here."

Schultz said the men had only been staying at the motel since Wednesday, but even in that short period of time, the meth lab the pair created could have caused a serious explosion. He said it was unclear how long it would take to clear the hazardous material and reopen the motel.

The Marshals Service said the two men repeatedly dodged police in Michigan and are suspected in "numerous home invasions and at least one stolen vehicle in Allegan County."

The service said tips led investigators to Cañon City, but it's not known what ties the men had to the area.

The Marshals Service, Fremont County investigators and the Pueblo SWAT team helped arrest the men. The pair is jailed and awaiting extradition to Michigan.

Authorities also took into custody the men's girlfriends, Laura Grauman and Brittany Rector who were found nearby the motel in a stolen car.
