Mom of teen killed in crash wants justice

Mother seeks justice for death of her son

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs mother seeks justice two months after her 13-year-old son died in a multivehicle crash.

The accident took place Sept. 23 in Fountain, near the intersection of Highway 85/87 and Plaza Boulevard. Regina Steckler was in a car with four of her kids and a friend when a truck slammed into them. Their car then pushed into a vehicle in front of them. Her son Jamie died of his injuries.

"He was pinned to the car between the driver's seat and the seat belt guarder. He was stuck between there," Steckler said. "That's all you saw, just his head and (he was) bleeding profusely from his nose."

The driver who slammed into them faces multiple charges, including child abuse causing death and vehicular homicide DUI. Steckler wants him behind bars.

"He knew right from wrong, and he decided to do it anyway," she said "And my son isn't here because of his actions."

Steckler said her other children help her cope with the pain, along with memories of Jamie. She said he wanted to be architect. He was very caring, especially of the elderly, and he loved to make people laugh.
