Multiple fire units battle structure fire

Outside garage fully engulfed with 2 cars, exploding ammo inside

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - Firefighters from several different units in the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District battled a fire in the 4200 block of Walker Rd. in Black Forest Sunday night.

The first units on scene reported an outside garage with two cars inside was fully engulfed. There was also ammunition exploding from the heat. The fire spread to the home, but firefighters were able to get it under control before it destroyed the home. The extent of damage to the home is currently unknown.

No one was injured in the fire, but two dogs did suffer some injuries. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Firefighters faced some complications during the battle. There are no hydrants in the area, so crews had to bring in water from outside. The cold weather also brought problems, causing the hoses to freeze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
