COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Newschannel 13 is uncovering more information about the deadly shooting of a pregnant woman including new information neighbors are sharing with us.
We've also learned Colorado Springs police arrested her estranged husband Monday night (9/9/13) in connection with her death.
A home on Woodstock Street in the Security-Widefield area is where the Jones family used to live.
"We would always say hi in passing. It was just a really nice family," said neighbor Amanda Williams.
Expecting mom 32-year-old Lakeisha Jones has three kids: ages 4, 10 and 12.
Monday morning (9/10/13), police got a call. Lakeisha had been shot and later died in the hospital.
"I was really surprised," said Williams.
Even more surprising to Williams was the man officers arrested: Lakeisha's estranged husband Andre Jones.
"I would've never anticipated that. He was just a really down-to-earth guy working two jobs to support his family," said Williams.
He was a friendly neighbor to the Williams.
"My dog really liked him and would run to him," she said with a laugh.
Known as "Dre", Wlliams says he moved out of the house within the last week, but Lakeisha has been gone for several months. Police tell Newschannel 13 the couple was separated.
A working mom at Walmart, Lakeisha has been living in the Summit Apartments for three weeks before she was shot.
"All around, it's tragic because she was someone's mother," said Colorado Springs Police spokesperson Barbara Miller.
Williams said this when we told her the estranged husband is the main suspect in Lakeisha's death.
"I've never suspected anything," said Williams.
Doctors were able to save Jones' baby girl after a c-section. She was in the hospital in critical condition as of Tuesday night (9/10/13).
Many people reached out to Newschannel 13 on Facebook offering their prayers for the family. Friends said she was a very funny, kind woman.
