There is a new web resource for the elderly and disabled living in the Pikes Peak Region. It is called The Network of Care, and caters to those living in El Paso, Teller and Park counties.
The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments said the purpose of the site is to provide an easy-to-use website to meet the increasing demand for information and services for seniors and adults living with disabilities.
The site provides information about treatments, medicines, doctor referrals, transportation, support groups, current headlines, social networking, legislative information and initiatives, and more, all in one spot.
"This is a system that has been being developed and evolving over 15 years specifically to make it more user-friendly," said Guy Dutra-Silveira, director of Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments.
Dutra-Silveira said they expect the site to attract a lot of attention, citing a similar site launched in the Boulder community. He said the Boulder site has seen around 4 million hits every quarter, and he said he anticipates the Pikes Peak Region site will see similar results.
"Google is a wonderful thing, but Google often presents you with challenges: knowing what's really pertinent, what information is valid that you can count on," said Mary Ann Sundberg.
Sundberg was involved with testing the site and providing feedback before its public launch.
"I would recommend it to anyone that wants to find specific information that they can count on," she said.
