COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - It was an historic day for southern Colorado; as the Southern Delivery System (SDS) Pipeline turned on to deliver fresh water to Colorado Springs. The project was thirty years and millions of dollars in the making, from planning to completion.
The pipeline stretches 50 miles, and it takes the water ten days to arrive at the treatment plant. The facility can pump up to 50-million gallons of water each day. The massive water treatment facility in Colorado Springs will treat and filter the water that flows from the Pueblo Reservoir.
The pipeline will meet immediate and future water needs in Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security, and Pueblo West through 2040.
