No natural gas for Walsenburg, Aguilar Utilities customers

WALSENBURG, Colo. - A gas leak is leaving residents of Walsenburg and Aguilar without natural gas throughout Wednesday night.  A weld in the gas main stretching from Trinidad to Aguilar failed on Tuesday, authorities said.

The leak has been stopped and repairs are underway but residents still won't have service until at least Thursday.  The outage affects about 3,600 Walsenburg Utilities customers and 270 customers in Aguilar.

Walsenburg City Administrator Dave Johnston tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that natural gas should flow again around noon Thursday.  At that time, Walsenburg Utilities will have to assist customers in lighting their pilot lights which could take several days.

Walsenburg customers who have concerns or need assistance with pilot lights should call 238-1048 during business hours.
