Plane crashes shortly after taking off from Meadow Lake Airport

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - A small plane failed to take off from the Meadow Lake Airport in El Paso County.

The plane crashed shortly after takeoff at about 1:20 p.m. Sunday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the plane was about 50 feet in the air when it lost power, came down in a field and slid into an embankment off of the Highway 24.

Officials said the pilot and passenger were able to get out of the plane without any injuries.

There are reports that some drivers have stopped along the highway to take a look. El Paso County sheriff's officials said deputies were on scene to help control traffic.
