Rash of Pueblo crimes linked to gang activity

PUEBLO, Colo. - Pueblo police say there have been seven gang related drive-by shootings, and a fire, since March 31st.

Officers said they interviewed 75 people connected to the crimes. They concluded that the drive-by shootings on 18th Street (03/31/14), Northern Avenue (04/11/14), Abriendo Avenue (04/11/14), 16th Street (04/12/14), Park Avenue (04/13/14) and 3rd Street (04/14/14), along with the fire on Fearnow Avenue (04/13/14), are all connected and out of retaliation.

The shooting Thursday night (04/17/14) on 4th Avenue is not connected to the other shootings, but Pueblo police said it is gang related.

The people officers interviewed are all under 30.

"This entire organization, this is the most important thing on our agenda right now is trying to solve these drive by shootings," Pueblo Police Chief Luis Velez said.

Police said three people have been injured in the violence. They are all expected to be okay.

Rachelle Mriglot lives near where the 4th Avenue shooting happened. She panicked when she heard there was a shooting in her neighborhood.

"It sounded like a car crash and then it sounded like gun shots," she said.

Jessie Saffold said she is concerned about the shootings, but she feels she is prepared if there is any trouble.

"I'm very well protected," she said.

Police are looking for Michael Gonzales and Ramon Gomez as people of interest in the shootings.

Pueblo police will provide an update on the investigations next Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you have any information regarding these cases call Pueblo Crime Stoppers at 542-STOP (7867).
