COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police say a driver lost control of her vehicle Tuesday night (7/8/14), hitting and killing a 7-year-old boy and sending five others to the hospital.
The crash happened around 7:15 on North Murray Boulevard near East Bijou Street.
Police say Xyrjah Goldstone, 21, was driving a white BMW northbound on North Murray Boulevard when she lost control of the car and veered into the southbound lanes. They say Goldstone then drove back into the northbound lanes and onto the sidewalk, hitting the boy and his father.
Isahaq Hameed, 7, was killed.
Hameed's father and four others in the vehicle, including the driver, were taken to the hospital. Police say Hameed's father is in serious condition.
Goldstone is facing charges for reckless vehicular assault and homicide, according to police. An advisement hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say speed is suspected as a factor in the crash. They do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved.
