Police shoot pit bull near elementary school

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police shot a pit bull Thursday morning near Scott Elementary School, saying the dog was posing an immediate threat to school children.

Two aggressive pit bulls were running loose near the school around 8:00 a.m., police said.  Officers responded and instructed children to leave the area.

Officers say they pepper-sprayed the dogs but they continued to act aggressively.  One dog was shot in the street and the second was captured and taken away by the Humane Society.

No injuries were reported.

The dogs did not have identifying information and the owners have not yet been found.
