COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs police are asking people to use caution when using ATM's at night.
There have been five robberies at local ATM'S since July 5, 2013.
The first robbery happened on July 5 at the Wells Fargo Bank on Prominent Point, near Briargate and Powers Boulevards. The next day, on July 6, a person was robbed at an ATM at the US Bank on North Academy Boulevard. That bank was also the scene of the fifth robbery on July 20. An ATM at the Taco Star on North Circle Drive on the 9 and the ENT Credit Union on Jetwing Drive was also hit by the robber.
Police said the thieves are armed with handguns and pepper sprat and at the robbery at the Taco Star, shots were fired but no injuries were reported.
Police said the culprits wait until their victims are stopped within the confined area of the drive-thru service area and then they approach the driver very aggressively.
Police said you should use an ATM inside an open business. You a should avoid using ATM' in the dark but if you must use one in the dark, ride around the building first to look for anyone who may look suspicious.
The suspects are described as Hispanic men in their late teens.
