Propane prices slowly dropping, lawmaker wants trend to continue

Propane prices slowly dropping

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - The price of propane is slowly dropping, and one Colorado lawmaker is working to try to keep it moving in that direction.

U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, R-District 4, wrote a letter to President Obama Friday, explaining the impact of propane's high prices. In it, he asks the president and his administration to look at different options to fix the problem now and in the future.

"Whether it's relief on regulations when it comes to trucking weight, trying to get more supply in, whether it's looking at other emergency actions that could be taken," Gardner said. "But really, trying to get to the bottom of what happened, when we know we have an infrastructure issue that's causing this sort of block in the pipeline so to speak."

Gardner said he heard from a number of constituents who were having trouble affording propane. He wants to give them some relief, but it may already be on its way.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration shows propane prices went down by more than a dime in the last week. It's the first price drop since October. In El Paso County, several companies said their prices had decreased to below $4 a gallon. That was the average from several companies in Pueblo County as well.
