Pueblo welcomes home Navy Officer

PUEBLO, Colo. - Pueblo continues to live up to its name "Home Of Heroes."

Brandon Bernal, a Navy Petty Officer Third Class, was welcomed home by dozens of Puebloans Sunday afternoon. Bernal served two tours in Afghanistan. During his most recent tour in 2010, Bernal was struck by a roadside bomb. In March, he was awarded the Purple Heart medal.

The American Legion Riders organized a welcome home celebration for Bernal. Organizers say they wanted to give him the welcome home greeting that Vietnam War veterans never got.

"There's a lot of people, a lot of the Pueblo community came out to you know support me so that's, that in itself is humbling you know and I'm very grateful for them to come out and show the support that they did," Bernal said.

Bernal said he's thankful for the large turnout he received on Sunday.
