Colorado Springs, COLO - Floods and fires are a threat in Southern Colorado, one we know all too well.
With disaster possible at any time, being prepared is vitally important for everyone.
From the Black Forest Fire to flooding along Highway 24, El Paso County residents have had to endure disasters in almost every part of the county over the last two years.
Even though response times have been good for the floods and fires, emergency managers recommend having a kit that can get victims of a disaster through the first 72 hours without any assistance.
"Initially, our first responders are worried about saving lives, getting the people out of harm's way. If you've got the kit, you're prepared to to respond to take care of yourself," said Ken Hughlett, the Emergency Management Coordinator for El Paso County.
Hughlett said that a good kit has things like a supply of medicine, water and even things to entertain the little ones.
