Questions remain in Colorado Springs' 19th homicide

Anthony Ferchaud's death is ruled a homicide; so far no charges

Victims identified in Colorado Springs shoot out

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police have ruled Saturday's shooting death the 19th homicide this year in the city.

Police said Tuesday that Anthony Ferchaud, 29, died from multiple gunshot wounds and Carlos Sesena, 33, is expected to survive after also being shot in the 2200 block of Montery Road. Neighbors said the two men engaged in a shootout at Sesana's home.

Police said a homicide investigation is under way and the 4th Judicial District Attorney's office will decide whether to file criminal charges.

Friends of both men said they're shocked by what happened. Ferchaud's friends said he was a former Ft. Carson lab technician, a father to a 7-year-old boy and a car fanatic.

"He was the one person all of us could call for anything," said Lindsay Ussery, who was a member of the United Empire car club with Ferchaud.

She and other car club members said Ferchaud was a genuine and caring person, and not prone to violence or trouble.

"I was in shock because, out of everybody I know, he was probably the number one person that I would not expect that to happen to," said car club member Diana Thate. "He was so humble, happy, smiling and laughing. He was a family person."

Police said Ferchaud knew Sesana, but won't say what sparked the shooting. Ferchaud's friends called it a "domestic disturbance," but wouldn't elaborate, and Sesana's neighbors said Ferchaud came over with Sesana's ex, and they believe their neighbor was defending himself.

"Carlos is a great guy," said his neighbor Glen Casteel. "He's been a really great neighbor. Never problems at all."

Casteel said Sesana is also a Ft. Carson soldier and a father.

Ferchaud's friends said they are holding a benefit car show for Ferchaud's son and mother on September 15th at Pikes Peak Harley Davidson. For more information on how to help, contact the United Empire car club at 719-685-6951.
