Sandbag filling station open for families in waldo flood danger zone

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With heavy rain in the forecast, the city of Colorado Springs has opened a self-help sandbag filling station on Flying W. Ranch Road.

The station is for homeowners who could be impacted by flooding from the Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar.

  • Sand is available until it is gone on a first-come, first-served basis during daylight hours only.
  • Residents must bring their own shovels.

The city is also making sandbags available at four of its fire stations. Homeowners can pickup 100 sandbags per address per day.

  • Station 18: 6830 Hadler View near Flying W Road and Centennial Blvd.
  • Station 9: 622 Garden of the Gods Rd.
  • Station 12: 445 Rockrimmon Blvd.
  • Station 5: 2830 W. Colorado Ave.
