Search for serial arsonist in Teller County

WOODLAND PARK - The search for answers into who started more than 25 small fires in Teller County is still an active investigation.  Sheriff Mike Ensminger told me, Investigators are still going through the evidence methodically.  They still have some work left to do."  The fire bug set these arson fires right before the huge Waldo Canyon wildfire erupted.

Woodland Park resident Lesley Ludwig has lived in this tight knit community for 10 years.  She says even thought the arson fires have stopped, "It still makes you nervous that this person has not been caught yet.  We're a small community and we really watch out for each other.  It's very scary that we haven't found this person."  Ludwig said what many people are thinking in Teller County about the person behind the arsons, "I would tell that person, look at what you've been doing. Take a look at what are you doing to people's lives and homes."

Park State Bank and Trust in Woodland Park is holding a ten thousand dollar reward for information leading to the capture of the serial fire starter.  Bank President Tony L. Perry said, "We just felt like we needed to take action. The community came together to do it.  We just need to catch him and lock him up."

Sheriff Mike Ensminger made it clear, "I stand by my personal opinion that the Waldo Canyon fire start and the arson fires in Teller County are not linked."  He said, "Our fires started next to a good passable roadway. The fires were started so the the suspect or suspects had an easy in and out from the roadway in most cases.  In the Waldo Canyon wildfire, the person had to hike a while."   The cause of the Waldo Canyon wildfire has been labelled human caused but it has not been officially released if it's accidental or caused intentionally.
