Springs man arrested for hurting baby

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs police said they arrested a man after he strangled his girlfriend and hurt her 9-month-old baby.

Officers said they got a call about a domestic disturbance Saturday night from the area of Oro Blanco Dr. and N. Carefree Cir.

Police said when they got there, they found a woman and her baby who had been seriously injured. The woman's 9-year-old sister was also there, but was not hurt.

According to the victim, she was in a car arguing with her boyfriend when she asked him to be let out.

Police said Mark Burch, 29, eventually pulled his car over and forced the victim out of the car and pushed her to the ground.

The victim told police she was able to get her baby out of the car and she told her sister to run for help.

According to the victim, she was trying to walk away with her baby, but Burch strangled her to unconsciousness.

She said that when she regained consciousness, she was on the ground under the truck and saw that her baby was bleeding.

The victim said she heard the truck starting up, so she managed to get out from under it with her baby.

They walked to a local bar for help and called police.

Officers arrested Burch and he was booked into the El Paso County Jail. He faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, one count of felony child abuse, and one count of misdemeanor child abuse.
