Springs Police Bust Car Theft Ring

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Springs police busted a car theft ring downtown Friday night. Officers arrested Reyes Martinez, 38, and Kristi Martinez, 38.

They said officers pulled over the two who were driving in a stolen car from Pueblo. Police also found out that the license plates on the car were from another stolen car from Pueblo.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found identification cards and tools that are most likely linked to other car break-ins.

According to police, the two suspects were planning to target areas with large Halloween parties. Officers said they broke into a car near I-25 and Woodmen before heading downtown.

Springs police said they will work with Pueblo police to locate victims.

Reyes Martinez was booked into the El Paso County Jail. He faces numerous felony charges including theft by receiving, possession of burglary tools, first-degree trespass and criminal possession of a financial transaction device.

Kristi Martinez was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
