Springs Police identify motorcycle officer killed in line of duty

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Matt Tyner was identified Tuesday evening by the Colorado Springs Police Department as the officer killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Officer Tyner was on a motorcycle and was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Austin Bluffs between Oro Blanco and Old Farm.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. 

Austin Bluffs was blocked for five hours in the area during the accident clean-up and investigation. 

Officer Tyner was on duty when the crash occurred, according to police.

Tyner has been with the Colorado Springs Police Department since 1999. He served as a Patrol Officer, a Neighborhood Resource Officer, and Training Academy Instructor before becoming part of the Specialized Enforcement Division/Motorcycle Unit, according to CSPD.

Before joining the Colorado Springs Police Department he worked at the Kansas City Police Department, according to CSPD.
