COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two death investigations were underway in Colorado Springs on Saturday night. One of them turned out to be unfounded.
The first happened on Meadowlark Lane, which is near the intersection of Union and Fillmore/Circle in the north-central part of the city.
Police told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that a body was found in the backyard of a home. No other details have been confirmed.
A second investigation was happening at the Whitney Young Manor Apartments on Delta Drive, near Academy and Chelton.
According to initial reports, a woman lying on the floor suffered a head injury and wasn't breathing when police arrived to assist paramedics. Police said the woman's son was standing over her with his fingers in her mouth, then became combative and threatened to kill them when they asked him to step aside
Police said moments later, the woman came to and attacked officers with a 3-foot long cow bone, hitting an officer in the ribs and trying to hit the same officer in the head before she was subdued.
The incident led to another disturbance with two female neighbors, police said, when one woman threatened to kill the officers and another woman tried to punch an officer in the head.
Police arrested four people but didn't release their names. One woman received treatment for minor injures at a hospital. The officers weren't hurt.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the disturbance, police said. They expect to seek three felony charges and a misdemeanor charge.
"There was some sort of family disturbance, and we're still trying to figure out what originally caused her to be down on the ground and him calling for help," said Sgt. Troy Ward.
The disturbance left many neighbors curious and concerned about what was happening.
"I looked out my window and saw more cop cars than I usually see over here," said neighbor Sara Brechin. "But police said they couldn't tell us anything."
