Staff members recovering after inmate attack at Supermax prison

Staffers Recovering After Inmate Assault

FLORENCE, Colo. - Three Supermax prison staff members are recovering after an inmate attack Wednesday.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said an inmate initiated an assault on a staff member Wednesday morning. Additional staff members then responded and restrained the inmate.

An FBP spokesperson said they're not releasing the inmate's name until he is formally charged.

The three staff members were taken to a hospital to be evaluated and treated. Their injuries were not life threatening. An FBP spokesperson couldn't comment on the nature of their injuries. But she said two of them were released from the hospital immediately, while the third may need to spend Wednesday night in the hospital.

The FBP spokesperson said at this time, this seems to be an isolated event. They, along with the FBI are investigating the incident.
