Student finds worm in school lunch

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Harrison High School in School District 2 said Wednesday that a student found a small worm in the school cafeteria's soup during lunchtime.

The student told a school employee that something was in the soup about the size of a fennel seed.  School officials told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that it was a weevil or meal worm.

Students were instructed to throw away the soup and were allowed to pick another entree.

One parent told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that multiple students found worms in their soup.  That parent sent us the photo of the worm shown above.

Another Harrison High School student sent us two more photos of worms she said were found in school lunches.

"All I heard during lunch was people shouting, 'Don't eat the soup,'" the student said.

The local health department was consulted and determined this was not a health concern, school officials said.

Parents of the high school have been notified of the incident.
